Master's Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 2 (Second Class), University of Sussex (SPRU - Science and Technology Policy Research), course: International Management, language: English, abstract: The research plans to show the importance of the leadership role of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in Managing Innovation. This has also attracted the focus of researchers analysing leadership styles and its relation to innovation. Innovation is a transition from traditional methods to modern ways of providing products, services, processes, business models and much more. However, factors that have continuously kept innovation ever-increasing have not yet been clearly identified. Effectively, CEOs have their own role in the process of managing innovation allowing, initiating and monitoring the processes, products, services offered by public or private sectors. Therefore, this dissertation plans to compare the CEOs leadership role in two leading online world companies Yahoo and Google that are rapidly facing the growing demands for modernisation of their offerings. The comparison will attempt to test a hypothesis that relates Yahoo and Google CEOs' role in selection of strategy, acquisitions and management style, and its effect in innovation outcomes.

Nicholas Logie The Role of Leadership in Conducting Orchestras


This book examines the leadership role of the orchestral conductor. Conducting is one of the most visible manifestations of leadership in action. Because of this, references to conductor leadership can be found in literature on management and studies into organizational leadership as well as corporate-leadership seminars. However, issues of leadership appear to form only a tangential part of conductor training and development. Compared to the in-depth study of musicianship and gestural technique, leadership appears to be a skill left to ‘on-the-job’ experience. In order to explore further the nature of the conductor’s leadership role, a survey of 31 aspiring conductors from eleven different countries forms the original research element of this book. The survey material is analysed and then discussed with reference to established leadership theory. In addition, reference is made to the views of established conductors to be found in openly available interviews. The conclusion proposes three elements to understanding conductor leadership: exploring personal authenticity, two theoretical leadership frameworks, and practical suggestions for accelerating leadership experience.

Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: Distinction, Durham University (Durham University Business School), course: Management (Entrepreneurship), language: English, abstract: Scholars only recently recognised the fact that new entrepreneurial ventures (i.e. start-ups) cannot be created and grown without the leadership of founders who initially formulate the vision and strategy of their organisations, set particular goals, and motivate and manage the efforts of their employees. Present research has mainly focused on quantitatively relating specific types of leadership behaviours to positive or negative new venture performance outcomes while neglecting to understand how the new venture context influences the initial choices of entrepreneurs to lead in a certain way.To close this research gap, this study examined the leadership behaviour of start-up founder-CEOs and the reasons for the practised styles through qualitative research. Transcripts of semi-structured interviews with 17 entrepreneurs who obtain the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) position in their start-ups were analysed using narrative interpretation. The study was conducted over a period of three months and sought to identify the participants' leadership behaviour by asking them specific indirect and direct questions that would reveal patterns of their leadership behaviour. This study investigates the association of leadership styles (transformational and transactional) with the organizational commitment in UK electronic manufacturing sector. Data collection is made through research instrument (questionnaire) and applied statistical tools (Pearson correlation one tail test) through the SPSS on the collected data. Overall finding shows that leadership styles have positive relationship toward high the level of attachment or organizational commitment. Electronics manufacturing sector adopting transformational leadership style at divisional level and also play role at functional level while transactional leadership has play more role at operational level while also play little bit role at functional level. This research study adds knowledge in the body of literature regarding leadership style role in developing organizational commitment in electronic services manufacturing sector.
